I am pursuing a Doctor of Education in Art and Art Education at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. I will begin my dissertation fieldwork and data collection this summer. My research concerns how landscapes, structures, and topographies inhabit and transmit memory and embodied ways of knowing across time and space, as they relate to sites of enslavement connected to my father's ancestral lineage in Middle Tennessee.
As an arts-based researcher working primarily in video, I am conducting audiovisual field recordings to investigate how sites with complex histories can encompass the twin properties of dispossession and divinity. A video and sound installation utilizing the field recording sessions will be an additional outcome of the dissertation writing and research.
